Electricians in Cardiff are being asked by local council to replace some of their vehicles because they do not have enough power.
The Welsh Government has set up a taskforce to look at how to ensure that the UK’s electrical infrastructure remains modern and reliable.
The taskforce has been tasked with identifying the best ways to extend the use of batteries and plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) and consider ways to improve electricity delivery.
The Wales Electricity Network has also been asked to look into how to increase the use and availability of plug-ins in the electricity sector.
The council is expected to issue its recommendations in January.
The initiative comes after a spate of high-profile incidents over the last year, including an incident in September last year where two electricians were killed by a fire at a Cardiff restaurant.
Electricity prices are rising at an annual rate of more than 5 per cent.
