Electric power generation in the United States was the lowest since 2007, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed.
The US generated 7.6 percent of the world’s electricity in 2016, down from 7.8 percent in 2008.
The Reuters/Purdue University poll, based on surveys conducted from May 15 to September 8, showed the U.S. was the only advanced economy that was unable to meet its 2020 goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions from its energy sector by 26 percent.
The U.K., France, Canada and Germany have been pushing to slash CO2 emissions by at least 27 percent, which would make it the world leader in achieving this goal.
