When the Emmy-nominated actor first made his big splash on the comedy scene with his breakout role in the critically acclaimed Netflix series “Gossip Girls,” he was still an aspiring actor and aspiring singer, not a television producer.
But then the 27-year-old came across a book he was writing about his father’s life, and his love for the show.
He landed a role on “The Bitchy Bitch” as a college student, and soon after, his acting career took off.
But it didn’t take long for DeSantes to find himself in a spotlight, as his TV work caught the attention of the big time, from ABC’s “The Bachelor” to “The Voice” to ABC’s reality competition show, “The Biggest Loser.”
DeSantes, who is now a TV producer, now plays the father of two sons, and he is in the midst of a TV spinoff called “The Gossip Girl,” which will star “Gloria” actress Laverne Cox, “Orange is the New Black” actress Kaley Cuoco and “The Good Wife” actress Claire Danes.
DeWald, who previously produced “Gotham” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” is directing.
The show will focus on DeSante’s character, who goes to a summer camp, and while there, he meets the mother of one of the boys.
He is able to bond with his children and share some of his life lessons.
The series will be produced by DeWaldo Productions, a division of TheWalt Disney Company.
DeSantis said he plans to take his time to hone his craft on the show and that he has a few ideas about how to use the series to further his career.
He said the series is a “little bit of an experiment” to see how he can utilize his time.
“I’m kind of just trying to figure out what I’m doing and what the best ways to use it are,” DeSants said.
“I’m a big believer that the best things happen when you’re on the road and doing things, but also doing the things you’re supposed to do.”
DeWald said the show is meant to be fun and that the showrunners have been really open about it.
He also said the producers and actors are very open about the fact that the story is a bit personal.
“We wanted to make it as honest as possible,” he said.
DeWalde also said they will focus heavily on family and family dynamics and the drama of how the family reacts to one another.
“The main character has a big part to play in the show,” he added.
“But the focus is on the family and how the children react to their father, their mother, how they react to each other.
There’s a lot of chemistry between the two of them.”
De Santis is one of two contestants on “Gulf Coast,” which premieres on Feb. 1.
He has a recurring role on ABC’s new “American Ninja Warrior” and he has also appeared on “Grey” and in “Orange Is the New Blood” (he plays the dad on “Bad Teacher”).
“The Bitter End,” a show based on a book by James Patterson, was recently renewed for a second season and has been renewed for another two seasons.
De Santises next TV gig is on “UnREAL” on NBCUniversal, and this summer he is set to star in the film “Catch Me If You Can,” based on the life of rapper Eminem.
He and Cox starred in the feature film “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” in 2014.
He recently had a guest appearance in the comedy “Criminal Minds” on Showtime.
